Scary Movie Night

grim-reaper-656083_1280
At the Troy Library on Thursday, October 22, we’ll have an afterhours scary movie night for teens and adults.  We’ll be eating snacks and scaring ourselves silly from 7-10pm.  We let you pick the movie — as long as it’s rated PG-13 or lower.  Warning: Most of the movie choices will probably be too scary for small children, so please leave little ones at home.

Banned Book Week

This week is National Banned Books Week and we are celebrating the freedom to read.  Some of the bestselling books of the last 100 years appear on the Banned and Challenged Books list, including To Kill a Mockingbird, The Great Gatsby, and The Lord of the Flies.  The list also includes more modern books like Fifty Shades of Grey, The Kite Runner, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. For more about how books have impacted our history, the Library of Congress has an online exhibition that I would highly recommend. Just google “Books That Shaped America” to see the exhibition and view some of the books.
